Set Windows Firewall to Automatic / Manual / Disabled

Windows firewall has always been one of the best firewalls out their and virus makers know it the best. That's why their first target is to set the windows firewall to manual mode or disable it. This helps them in making the targeted computer even more vulnerable.
Usually you will not even come to know that your windows firewall is disabled. So every time after a virus attack you should make sure that your firewall is switched on and is set to automatic.

Enable/Disable Run Command in Start Menu

Many times run command is disabled by viruses so that you cannot access tools like registry, msconfig, group policy editor, command prompt, etc., which are used to remove virus.
